a quick note to end 2013
the final few days of the year might be my favourites. and i must say it’s been nice to take the past couple of days just at home, quiet, reading books, reflecting on the year and recuperating with the lights aglow on the tree.this has been a very different holiday season for us : toronto was hit hard with an icestorm a few days before christmas, resulting in power outages all over the city and many cold homes. luckily our home did not lose power, so we happily hosted our friends who were not quite so lucky! on christmas day, we drove to dave’s sister’s farm for dinner, and got stuck in a bit of a snow storm on the way. we did make it just in time for dinner, and it was so lovely spending that time with dave’s family, the kids running around in their new jammies, popping christmas crackers, eating christmas cake, and watching it’s a wonderful life. the next few days were spent checking on my parents’ home while they were out of town, only to find that the basement had flooded! the damage was not too bad, but there was a lot of clean up involved as well as getting someone out to fix the broken sump pump. can you see why we were a bit exhausted?! :)somehow through all of that though… it made me feel pretty thankful. somewhere between having friends sleepover in our living room and salvaging boxes from the wet basement, i knew it could be a lot worse, and it is usually a lot worse for many people. i really can’t imagine what it’s like for people who’s homes get completely destroyed… or who never have power or heating to rely on when the temperatures drop. it’s what you’ll expect me to say, but i really can’t believe the year is over, just like i can’t believe where this year has taken us.on a bit more of a personal note, dave and i just want to take this space here to seriously thank you all. thank you for reading, for supporting us through kind words left in our comment boxes or inboxes, for sharing our work through a post on facebook or instagram, for sending us an inquiry and wanting to work with us, for telling your friends about us, and for somehow spreading the word that we are here and want to capture people’s weddings and stories. these small things all add up, and we really would not be able to do what we do without that. here’s to 2014!jenn + dave x
