A WINTER'S HARVEST

the colour of spring time is in the flowers -- the colour of winter is in the imagination // terri guillemets

i think it's accurate to say that dave + i are going through a season of imagination. we are listening to our friends and reading things online and getting the feeling that people are generally feeling exhausted right now. the culprits and reasons vary, but the feeling remains the same. i don't think it's a bad season to go through. i think every season teaches us something, and there's beauty in every one.a big lesson 2012 taught me was that whenever i find myself continually pouring out, pouring out, i eventually get, well, empty. space in which we allow ourselves to be filled back up again is necessary, vital. when we desire to be doing meaningful work, work that makes a difference, it is even more true. the best are those rare and wonderful times when both happen at the same time, but i think it's dangerous to assume and rely on this always being the case. sometimes good work exhausts you -- that doesn't make it bad, it just is. sometimes we are called to give much more than we get, and that's ok. i think if we desire to create meaningful work, it comes from reaching inside of ourselves, and we do no good when we are empty. this is what true balance in life is, for me. i don't really like the idea of 'goals' or 'resolutions' at the start of a year, but this is something that's in my conscious more and more lately, so i thought i'd share it.i think we should embrace this season, because with the winter comes a time when the surface appears still and covered, a time to discover the things that have been laying in wait beneath the surface. i think it's a time to rekindle the embers that are starved but still glowing. a time to regroup; a time for imagination. xo, jenn
