the best lunch / maui hawaii travel photographers
if someone were to ask me what was the best lunch i've ever had, i now have an answer.we drove up the winding roads along the slopes of mt haleakala. i'd like to blame the mist shrouding the fields but in reality we missed the sign for o'o farm and continued on for a few minutes because we weren't yet looking for the sign. the gps declared we'd arrived at our destination some miles later in the middle of nowhere & i had flashbacks to that one episode from the office. technology can't be trusted. technology wants to murder me in a lake.the farm is eight acres of sustainably maintained land. we walked through orange groves and coffee trees, past chicken coops, bee hives and through the gardens. we sampled rocket & edible flowers, crushed all spice leaves in our hands. we met the chef who prepared lunch under open air & we were taken around by ancil, who's passion for growing naturally and solving the challenges that come with small farming was so evident & pretty inspiring. i'm a big believer in small, biodiverse farming and local, fresh ingredients -- so this was a little slice of heaven for me. we sat down at long wooden tables and ate oven roasted vegetables with tofu, the most gorgeous focaccia bread i've ever laid eyes on, and the salad we'd just picked. for dessert, chocolate with orange slices & coffee from the farm, freshly roasted just the day before.it was the best lunch. o'o farm is located in kula, maui. we were not commissioned to write this, we just loved our time there & wanted to share -- all opinions are our own! photos from our travels there in january 2016.
