home with emma + pete
welcome home.it's the tagline of their website, the name of the workshop they run for photographers.two years ago when they got married, they danced to the song 'home' by edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros.. they'd kept their wedding a surprise, even to their guests who thought they were attending emma's birthday party, and i can remember the videos and tweets as they flooded the internet as dave and i drove home from a shoot back here in canada.we met emma + pete for the first time six years ago when we lived in birmingham and none of us were doing photography and we've stayed friends as our lives have traveled similar paths, watching as they've become amazing photographers in the uk. in july, on our trip across the ocean, they welcomed us into their home for a couple days and being there we knew, everything about emma + pete is about home -- that feeling of being in a welcoming place and the freedom to be yourself... the two of them embody that with their whole hearts.we didn't know we were going to make this until we were all chatting about changes and decisions and next steps at one point in our visit, and pete + emma had mentioned the possibility of a new house in the near future.. we knew we wanted to take a few pictures of them while we were there, but this is what happened instead.. dave and i knew without having to say anything that we wanted to capture this, their first home together. where they started their business out of their spare room, where their cat maximo was born, where emma got ready on their wedding day... their first home together.emma + pete, we love you guys. xbirmingham, uk // july 2013
