A SNOWY LITTLE WEEKEND GETAWAY..

We should just make our Christmas gift to each other a weekend away together, I say to him one night over dinner a few months ago. He smiles and laughs and says..... that's what I was already planning to do :) At times, we almost share the same brain, I think. So Christmas morning comes and he shows me the place he picked out online, and a few weeks into January, we pack up the car and drive north...We get to the cabin and I photograph everything of course, ha! It's always like that -- being in a new place wakes me up, new surroundings make me have to capture it, almost right away, before it becomes 'normal' or something. To turn things that might be someone's 'ordinary' into a little bit of magic again, that's what I love about photographing. Everyday beauties. I've never been here, but I immediately feel at home in this little wood cabin. That night we drink cider, stoke the fire, and play a game we make up as we go involving a dusty 1980's edition of Trivial Pursuit... I win :)In the morning, scrambled eggs and coffee and watching the snow fall. Total quiet -- no computers, no internet, no noise. Our main task becomes keeping the fire going. We go snowshoeing through the forest, the snow-covered trees are like Narnia. I've never snowshoed before and really love it... actually we both have never really been 'winter' people, but we both love trekking through the woods. In the afternoon we read on the couch. We're so in the middle of nowhere that at night the moon lights up the whole sky and the snow literally sparkles.Of course, come Sunday morning, we very reluctantly head home.. :) Three precious wonderful days to just relax, no agenda and have some us time. We loved it. It's so good sometimes to have time dedicated to just being. We loved it so much we made a little video of it from our photos we took... we've been playing around lately with making these little videos but haven't shared any here before, so here goes & we hope you enjoy... :) xo, jenn------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
